City council adopts new amusement tax statutes
Dance events are no longer taxed
The city council passed the new entertainment tax statutes at its meeting today.
In order to support cultural life in the city, dance events will no longer be taxed. The new statutes will come into force on 1 July 2018 following public announcement.
Since 1995, the city of Chemnitz has levied amusement tax on events in nightclubs, bars, on gaming devices and, until now, on dance events.
A total of approx. 1.2 million euros is collected annually as amusement tax, of which approx. 35,000 euros was from dance events.
The amusement tax for dance events was generally set at a rate of 1.50 euros per 10 square metres of event space or part thereof.
