City council adopts municipal budget for 2015
Budget balanced for the first time in five years - focus on investments in schools and road construction
At its meeting yesterday, the City Council adopted the City of Chemnitz budget for 2015 by a majority vote (51 in favour / 2 against / 0 abstentions).
Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "For the first time since 2010, the City of Chemnitz has a balanced budget. The focus of investment continues to be on schools, daycare centres and road construction, among other things, and the budget for sport has also been significantly increased. We are thus shaping a socially and economically strong Chemnitz that is sustainable in the central areas of life."
Around 54 million euros planned for investments
The city's investment programme for 2015, with a volume of €54.7 million, will once again focus on the renovation of schools and daycare centres, the road network and flood protection measures. A further focus will be on investment in sports facilities to further improve the conditions for popular and elite sport. The school gymnasiums and the gradual refurbishment of the indoor swimming pools will remain the main focus.
Around 20.4 million euros have been earmarked for the city's schools in 2015 and are therefore an investment in the city's future. This includes measures such as Borna primary school (€3.5 million), the boarding school at the sports high school (€3.2 million), the special school for the physically disabled (€2.1 million), the E.-G.-Flemming primary school (€1.9 million), the Josephinen secondary school (€1.85 million) and the BSZ Technik III (€1.85 million).
The measures in connection with the expansion of Zschopauer Straße (EUR 2.6 million) and the motorway junction A 72 West towards Rabenstein (EUR 2.6 million) will also be continued. The 2015 budget was influenced by current developments: the city of Chemnitz is hiring ten more nursery nurses due to the adjustment of the childcare ratio in daycare centres. A total of twelve additional positions will be subsidised at independent providers. Rising costs are also expected in this area due to the increasing number of asylum seekers.
The 2015 budget statutes of the City of Chemnitz show a budget volume of almost 650 million euros. In the income budget, income totalling 649.6 million euros is offset by expenses of 647.7 million euros. The double-entry budget is balanced for 2015. When analysing the cash flows (comparative cash flow statement), there is a deficit of 0.981 million euros.
