City council adopts development plan no. 11/13 "Waisenstraße south side"
At its meeting yesterday, the city council cleared the way for the development of the so-called "Conti-Loch". The resolution passed by a large majority of the council to consider and approve the development plan marks the end of the preparation process for the development plan.
The planning of the City of Chemnitz sets the framework for future development in the area; building applications must adhere to the formulated objectives. The urban development plan was developed in an intensive coordination process, starting in January 2012, with the involvement of the city councillors and the public. The City of Chemnitz's planning was coordinated with the building plans of the owner, Regensburg-based investor Claus Kellnberger. This ensured that the owner's development ideas and the city's objectives could be harmonised.
The development of the site eliminates the long-standing urban development problem of the so-called "Conti-Loch" and creates the conditions for the creation of an inner-city neighbourhood between the State Museum of Archaeology, the main railway station and the Sonnenberg.
The plans allow for the construction of an underground car park with several levels in the excavation pit that has existed since 1995. Offices and, especially on Dresdner Strasse, flats are permitted on the upper floors. Retail uses are restricted in terms of total area and permitted product ranges so as not to jeopardise the development of shops in the immediate vicinity of the town hall.
