City congratulates Olympic athletes

Reception on 16 August at 3 p.m. on Chemnitz Neumarkt - entry in the city's Golden Book and entertaining programme

The Chemnitz Olympians will be returning from the London Games next week with sporting successes and exciting experiences in their luggage. The people of Chemnitz can welcome their athletes at a big reception on Thursday 16 August at Neumarkt. The athletes will report on their competitions on the big stage from 3.00 pm. Sports reporter Jens Umbreit and presenter Conny Hartmann from Radio Chemnitz will lead through the programme. Mayor Berthold Brehm will congratulate the athletes and invite them to sign the Golden Book.

Shot putter and silver medallist David Storl, hurdler Silvio Schirrmeister from Leichtathletik-Club Erdgas Chemnitz and shot putter Christina Schwanitz from Leichtathletik-Verein Thum 1990 as well as their coaches have confirmed their attendance. Track sprinter Maximilian Levy, who won two medals - silver in the keirin and bronze in the team sprint - will not be able to attend as he is competing in the German Track Championships in Frankfurt/Oder that day. It is still uncertain whether Matthias Steiner will attend the reception.

Following the entry in the Golden Book, an autograph session with the Olympians is planned. All Chemnitz residents are cordially invited to attend the reception at Neumarkt and congratulate the Olympians on their achievements.
