City builds day-care centre in Altendorf itself
The city of Chemnitz will build the planned day-care centre in Altendorf itself. The administration will present a corresponding proposal to the city council for a decision in March. Building Mayor Michael Stötzer and Gunda Georgi, Head of the Office for Youth and Family, announced this today.
The daycare centre will be built with 119 places on the basis of the existing plans of Heim gGmbH. The planning will be taken over, and Heim gGmbH will be reimbursed for planning and development costs already financed. The construction and operation of the facility was originally awarded to Heim gGmbH by the city council in March 2016. However, the company informed the city council in December 2017 that the construction project could not be realised for the company for economic reasons.
The costs for the construction of the daycare centre amount to around €4.9 million. The costs are to be covered by additional revenue from key investment allocations. Heim gGmbH's original cost forecast of EUR 2.9 million will be exceeded due to further planning, an increase in capacity from 100 to 119 places, initial tender results and the current construction price trend, among other things.
Due to the urgency of the measure - the urgent need for a daycare centre in the district - a separate construction decision was not taken. The original resolutions on the creation and operation of the daycare centre and on the heritable building right to the land on which the facility is to be built are cancelled.
The daycare centre will be operated by Heim gGmbH, as the company already operates an interim daycare centre nearby. Parents are therefore already familiar with the childcare staff and the operator concept has been well received.
The new daycare needs plan, which was approved by the city council on 8 November 2017, envisaged the construction of a further daycare centre in the Kaßberg/Altendorf area if there was sufficient demand. The current population development for 2017 (number of births, number of new arrivals) confirms this need, so that the expression of interest procedure for the new building and operation by an independent provider has been initiated.
