City begins sending out election notifications for the Bundestag election - start of postal voting
The mailing of election notifications to the 195,905 eligible voters in the city of Chemnitz for the Bundestag election on 24 September 2017 will begin in the next few days. Unlike in previous years' elections, this time the notification will not be a card but a letter.
The mailing will last until 3 September, by which day at the latest every eligible voter who is entered in the Chemnitz electoral roll must have their election notification in their hand. If someone does not receive a letter but believes that they are entitled to vote, they must contact the city's electoral authority (Tel. 0371 488-7483, e-mail: wahlbehoerde(at)stadt-chemnitz.de) to ensure that they can exercise their right to vote.
The notification sent out will indicate when and in which polling station each eligible voter can exercise their right to vote on 24 September 2017. The address of the polling station, the number of the electoral district and the number under which you are entered in the electoral roll can be found in the notification. The polling station is also labelled with a symbol indicating whether the polling station is accessible or not. Voters should pay particular attention to the information on the polling station, as a number of polling stations have changed compared to the 2013 elections.
Ballot paper for postal voting
Every person entitled to vote will also receive an application for a polling card with their election notification. This can be used if you intend to cast your vote by postal vote before election day. Alternatively, the online application for a polling card can also be used on the Internet at www.chemnitz.de/bundestagswahl.
Once the application has been submitted, the person entitled to vote receives a ballot paper and the postal voting documents sent to their home address or to an address specified by them. They exercise their right to vote and return the complete postal ballot letter with all associated documents free of charge by Deutsche Post AG to the address printed on it. It is important to note that the ballot letter must be returned to the City of Chemnitz postal voting office by 6 p.m. on 24 September 2017 at the latest.
A polling card also entitles the voter to go to any polling station to vote on 24 September 2017, for example if the polling station assigned to an eligible voter is not barrier-free but the eligible voter wishes to go to a barrier-free polling station. Instant polling station in the town hall open from 4 September
Another option for voting before election day is instant voting at the town hall, Markt 1 in the postal voting centre. This will be open from 4 September 2017 during the opening hours printed on the polling card
- Monday and Wednesday 8.30 am - 4 pm,
- Tuesday and Thursday 8.30 am - 6 pm,
- Friday 8:30 am - 12 noon, on 22 September until 6 pm
It is essential that you bring your polling card application form (on the back of your election notification) and your identity card or passport. Voters will receive their polling card and postal voting documents here and can also vote immediately on site.
