City begins development of the industrial park on Leipziger Strasse in Röhrsdorf ("Wasserschänke")

In parallel to the construction work for the new SIEMENS plant, the city has begun developing the industrial park on Leipziger Straße in the Röhrsdorf district.

Between Wittgensdorf and the Chemnitz Center, the traffic and media technology connection to this industrial area is being established. 1.5 kilometres of access road is being built parallel to Leipziger Strasse as an extension of Röhrsdorfer Allee as far as Obere Hauptstrasse in Wittgensdorf.

This road will be developed with parking spaces, pavements, deep beds for drainage and three bus stops for a later connection to local public transport.

The expansion also includes all media such as sewerage, electricity, gas, drinking water and extinguishing water, lighting and communication. A footpath and cycle path link to Damaschkestraße in the Wittgensdorf quarry housing estate is also being built.

The project is being realised in cooperation between the civil engineering office, the energy service provider "eins energie in sachsen" and Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft Strom mbH.

The timing of the development is coordinated with the construction of the new SIEMENS plant. The new road should be completed by 30 June next year up to the site of the new SIEMENS plant. Further construction up to Obere Hauptstraße Wittgensdorf is then scheduled for 30 June 2015.

The construction department estimates the construction costs of the public development at around 3.1 million euros. The consortium EBG Bau GmbH (Ehrenfriedersdorf)- Krause & Co GmbH (Adorf) was commissioned to carry out the work.

The construction project is being subsidised by the Free State of Saxony with funds from the joint task "Improvement of the regional economic structure".

The city of Chemnitz is in talks with other investors for further settlements in the Leipziger Straße industrial park.
