City awarded contract in federal programme for future package
The city of Chemnitz is receiving 150,000 euros from the federal programme "Future Package for Culture, Exercise and Health". This year, the money will be used to implement programmes for young people in the Gablenz district.
The programme of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth focuses in particular on the participation of children and young people. To this end, the Youth Welfare Office and Ute Spindler, the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, encouraged young people to contribute their own ideas when applying for funding. With the support of independent youth welfare organisations and in particular the City of Chemnitz Sports Association, various future conferences were organised at which children and young people were able to submit their ideas.
The proposals were discussed in a "Future Committee" at the F.-A.-W.-Diesterweg-Oberschule yesterday, Tuesday 21 March, and the following projects were confirmed: three themed festivals in the district's daycare centres, a children's festival, a sports sponsorship programme, the design of the Bürgerpark and health-related activities in schools.
And the process is not over - during the project period until the end of this year, young people are invited to participate in the active realisation of their ideas at any time.
Ute Spindler, Children and Youth Officer and the main person responsible for the programme: "I am extremely pleased for Chemnitz that young people can participate in the federal programme and enrich the city with their fresh ideas."

Future package for exercise, culture and health
The Future Package for Physical Activity, Culture and Health is a programme of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ). It is implemented by the Gesellschaft für soziale Unternehmensberatung (gsub) and the SPI Foundation.
The German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) is responsible for the "Child and Youth Participation in the Future Package" part of the programme.
