City archive sheds light on the history of the Schillerplatz neighbourhood
A lecture from the series "The city archive presents"
In collaboration with the Chemnitz History Society, the City Archive will be presenting a lecture by Dr habil. Hans-Dieter Langer on the history of the Schillerplatz neighbourhood. Admission is free.
From the middle of the 19th century, the Theaterplatz/Schillerplatz quarter and the nearby railway station developed into a cultural, economic and scientific centre on the site of the historic Anger, the likes of which were unparalleled in Chemnitz. The neighbourhood is characterised by the stock spinning mill, the Höhere Königliche Gewerbschule, but also by the Brühl workers' housing area. Valuable impulses for urban development came from here. The city's memorials and cultural monuments are clustered here. The speaker will enrich his lecture with a remarkable photo exhibition.
