City archive presents lecture on the railway junction

The next event in the series "The City Archive presents" will take place

on Thursday, 19 March 2015, 6 pm,

in the Chemnitz City Youth Hostel building, Getreidemarkt 1, 09111 Chemnitz

will take place. The lecture evening is a joint event with the Chemnitz History Society and has the following theme:

The reconstruction of the Chemnitz railway junction at the beginning of the last century

The speaker is the railway historian Thomas Hebenstreit, Chemnitz.

The lecture will begin with a brief review of the history of the Royal Saxon State Railways up to 1900, the construction of lines, the organisation of state operations and their financing. Chemnitz was connected to the railway network in 1852, so the lecture also looks at the development of the railway network in Chemnitz and the surrounding area up to 1900. The focus is then on the conversion of the main railway station and the line to Kappel in the first decade of the 20th century, with extensive construction measures such as the redesign of Dresdner Platz and the construction of the new Annaberger Straße viaduct. The tour concludes with a look at the present (completion of the remodelling of the main station) and the future (remodelling of the line from the main station to Chemnitz-Mitte station).

Admission is free.
