City and TU Chemnitz welcome new students

Joint welcome poster campaign - free admission to the museum with a student ID card

Today's enrolment ceremony at Chemnitz University of Technology marks the start of the new 2016/2017 academic semester. For the first time, all students and staff are invited to the community4you ARENA for the ceremonial start of the academic year. Mayor Barbara Ludwig welcomes the future students with a video message:

"Welcome to Chemnitz. I sincerely hope that you are embarking on an important, beautiful and intensive phase of your life. You have chosen a very good university and you are in an interesting city. I hope that you get to know many people who interest you, who may become friends for life or your life partner. And most importantly, of course, that you learn a lot during your studies. That you have a good degree that will take you further and hopefully keep many of you here in Chemnitz."

To welcome students to Chemnitz, the city and Chemnitz University of Technology have developed a joint poster campaign. The welcome motif is reduced to a handwritten welcome message and invites you to discover Chemnitz as a city with plenty of room for new things. The motif can be seen from 27 September on 100 Citylights surfaces and from 4 October on 35 Megalights in the city. Other partners, institutions and city centre retailers also supported the campaign by displaying posters. 5,000 postcards were also printed and will be distributed, for example, in the semester bags handed out to new students at the matriculation ceremony.

With the student culture ticket, Chemnitz offers a "culture flat rate" with discounts. The valid student ID is also the cultural ticket in Chemnitz. It is valid as an admission ticket for the city's theatres and museums: these include the Industrial Museum, the Museum of Natural History, the Art Collections, the Gunzenhauser Museum, the Schloßberg Museum, the Henry van de Velde Museum and Rabenstein Castle.

Spontaneity is required for theatre visits: seats that are not sold 15 minutes before the start of the performance will be allocated to holders of a valid student ID who are interested. If the newly introduced "Student Culture Ticket" proves successful after a pilot phase lasting two semesters, it will be continued.
