City administration on site with information and advice at the authority festival
The traditional summer festival of the Chemnitz authorities will take place for the 10th time under the patronage of the State Directorate of Saxony on Sunday, 2 September on the grounds of the Klaffenbach moated castle. As in previous years, the City of Chemnitz will once again be taking part with much sought-after information and counselling services: From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., eight employees from the Citizens' Office will be on site at the festival, providing information from the Registration Office and Citizens' Service, the Driving Licence Office and the Lost Property Office. This year, the Service Centre 115, a newly established department of the Citizens' Office, will be making its debut at the Public Authorities Festival. The public order officewill be represented at the festival by the traffic monitoring department. Two employees will be presenting a vehicle with radar technology and two laser measuring devices.
Traditionally, the fire brigade is also a special point of contact for visitors at this year's public festival: this time, the youth fire brigade from Klaffenbach will be on site at the moated castle with around 15 firefighters. The young firefighters will arrive with a fire engine and a spray wall. The fire brigade will also be presenting an ambulance (KTW) from the 25th Chemnitz Medical Task Force.
Contemporary witnesses recall the moated castle's past
The Chemnitz branch of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the State Security Service of the former GDR will also be taking part in the programme of the festival of authorities on 2 September from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Under the title "Contemporary witnesses at an authentic location", a talk will be held from 1:50 p.m. onwards, moderated by Chemnitz BStU Director Dr. Clemens Heitmann with contemporary witness Susanne Wilk and Lutz Rathenow, Saxon State Commissioner for Stasi Records. A reading entitled "Shadow children behind Torgau walls" will take place at 4.00 pm with Heidemarie Puls, author and contemporary witness. The exhibition "Ziel: Umerziehung - Geschichte zur repressiven Heimerziehung in der DDR" (Goal: Re-education - History of repressive home education in the GDR) can be visited throughout the day and applications for access to files can be made.
