CITRAM - "on the green wave" via smartphone
Research project starts with traffic light phase app - test subjects wanted
From the end of June, drivers in Chemnitz will be able to use a smartphone app to adapt their driving behaviour to the traffic lights. This will help to organise city traffic in a more environmentally friendly way. The online information required to control the traffic lights is provided by the city's traffic management system, which has been upgraded with the appropriate software for real-time data transmission. Final preparations are currently being made for the routes included in the CITRAM research project so that test drives can begin soon.
The Federal Ministry of Transport is supporting this project with a total of 1.72 million euros in the so-called modernisation fund. The city of Chemnitz will receive a pro rata grant of around 90,000 euros.
Invitation to participate in the test to all interested citizens
The offer to take part in the pilot test starting on 29 June is aimed at all drivers who frequently drive on the selected test routes Leipziger-, Frankenberger- or Annaberger Straße. All voluntary participants will be provided with the "[ui!] ECOMAT" and "enviroCar" apps for the test.
Behind the "[ui!] ECOMAT" app is the so-called traffic light phase assistant. This shows the driver how long the next set of traffic lights is likely to remain red or green. This then leads to recommendations for the driving style at the junction in order to reduce fuel consumption and battery consumption.
With the "enviroCar" app, the personal benefit for participants is that they can analyse their own journeys, such as comparing fuel consumption and journey times on alternative routes. The city receives anonymised data to monitor the quality of the green waves.
Virtual information events for participation
To inform test drivers, project partner TSC Essen will be holding virtual information events on Thursday, 25 June at 5.30 pm and Friday, 26 June at 10 am using the GoToMeeting video conferencing system to present the organisational and technical aspects of participating in the pilot test.
