Citizens' dialogue on Franco-German cooperation
Conference via ZOOM on 13 October, 7 to 8.30 pm
An online citizens' dialogue on the Franco-German tandem and the future of Europe is taking place today from 7 to 8.30 pm via the Zoom platform. The dialogue is part of the European Week of Local Democracy, in which the city of Chemnitz is participating.
Registration for the citizens' dialogue
The event will be accompanied by simultaneous translation. This will give French-speaking and German-speaking EU citizens the opportunity to discuss the current challenges facing Europe. A strong Franco-German alliance is essential to move the European Union forward. But what is the current state of the tandem? What Franco-German impetus does the future of the EU need? Dr Hans-Dieter Lucas, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to France and Monaco, and Sabine Thillaye, President of the European Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, will also be taking part and will be available to answer questions on the Franco-German alliance. These can be asked live.
The European Local Democracy Week was launched by the Council of Europe. The EU Office of the City of Chemnitz has been taking part for years and was able to present its activities to coordinators from the Council of Europe and municipalities from Turkey, Portugal and France in a webinar a few days ago. In particular, the "Edgar and Edda ask for your wishes" campaign during European Mobility Week was emphasised due to the involvement of children and young people in the design of cycle paths.
During this year's European Week of Local Democracy, which is being organised under the motto "Environmental protection: local communities get active", pupils in Chemnitz are learning about democratic decision-making processes in an interactive project. In addition to sporting competition, a tournament organised by Sportjugend Chemnitz also focuses on respectful interaction with one another.
The events are not limited to the action week, but can be registered at any time. For example, the exhibition "Open Trial", which deals with the crimes of the NSU and how to deal with them, can be visited free of charge at the Neue Sächsische Galerie in Chemnitz until 7 November.
