The Citizens' Association for Chemnitz in cooperation with AktionC receives a grant for art activities with children and the design of the nationwide day of action "We for Democracy - Day and Night for Tolerance" on 16 April 2013
Some of the works can already be seen in the city centre on 05.03.2013.
On 16 April 2013, a nationwide day of action entitled "Wir für Demokratie - Tag und Nacht für Toleranz" (We for Democracy - Day and Night for Tolerance) will take place. In Chemnitz, the Bürgerverein für Chemnitz e.V. is participating in cooperation with AktionC.
From February to April 2013, fleece posters from schools and day-care centres will be created in an art campaign for the Democracy Poster Mile on 16 April 2013. Some of the works will already be on display in the city centre on 05.03.2013.
The project is scheduled to run until the end of 2013, with the core events taking place in the city centre on 16.04.2013. Over the course of the year, the project will be continued in children's and youth facilities in the city. The results of the thematic work will be expressed in fleece posters and presented as a major art project on the Long Night of Democracy.
The aim is to appeal to as many children's and youth centres in the city as possible to engage with the themes of democracy, tolerance and civil courage on a project day. The artistic realisation is stimulated by the provision of fleece and paint; the project partners are the teachers of the participating children's and youth facilities.
The core event on 16 April 2013 in St Jacob's Church will focus on the question of how a young person could become a Nazi in the 1930s - or could become one today. The aim is to encourage discussion of the causes and effects of right-wing ideas. The event will be framed by further cultural contributions. Further information on the organisation of the nationwide day of action "We for Democracy - Day and Night for Tolerance" on 16 April 2013 in and around St. Jakobi Church will be provided in a separate press release.
