Citizens' advisory council on safety meets for the first time
The first meeting of the Citizens' Advisory Council on Security took place on 1 October. Mayor Barbara Ludwig had proposed this at the Citizens' Dialogue on 17 September at the CFC stadium. Nineteen Chemnitz residents spontaneously volunteered to participate, two immediately after the event.
The citizens on the advisory board are therefore not selected, but have appointed themselves through their registration. The members of the Citizens' Advisory Council are Chemnitz residents of various age groups and professions.
During the introductory round, it became clear that the motive for joining is similar for everyone: they want to do something for Chemnitz right now. Not to grumble, but to help achieve improvements to the climate in the city.
The first topics raised by members of the Citizens' Advisory Council were The assembly events in the city centre and the growing resentment about them, police presence and quick response times of the security forces in the city centre, causes for the increased fear of crime, the situation on Sonnenberg and in other areas of the city, safety on buses and trains, reaction to petty crime.
In addition to the Lord Mayor and Mayor Miko Runkel, police officer Knut Kunze from the Chemnitz police department and CVAG press spokesman Stefan Tschök also took part.
It was agreed that the participants would take up topics and assessments on safety from their living and working environment and put them on the agenda.
The next meeting of the Citizens' Advisory Council will be held in private in December.
