This year's Christmas tree for the Chemnitz Christmas market will arrive on the market square in the late afternoon of Saturday, 8 November.
Once again this year, the tree will be felled by employees of Techno-Farm und Service GmbH, transported on a low-loader in a journey lasting several hours via motorways and main roads and erected on Chemnitz market square.
The delivery traditionally marks the start of the preparations for the Christmas market.
Interested parties can once again shorten the waiting time until the tree arrives in Chemnitz with a barbecue and mulled wine at the market.
As in the previous year, this year's Christmas tree was found in the forest district of the Sachsenforst state enterprise in Eibenstock, Wildenthal district. The stately, approx. 27 metre high spruce is estimated to be between 50 and 70 years old. Its exact age can only be determined after felling based on the annual rings.
Around 24 metres of the spruce will then be visible on the Chemnitz market, as the tree will be firmly anchored in a three-metre-deep ground socket as usual.
The search for a visually appealing, evenly grown tree with healthy needles, which is also stable enough to be decorated with fairy lights, was once again very difficult. Due to the effects of the weather in recent years and the economic utilisation of trees, trees that meet these requirements and are available have become much rarer.
