The approximately 33 metre high, 80-100 year old spruce, which will soon adorn the Chemnitz Christmas market, was found in the forest district of the Sachsenforst state enterprise in Eibenstock.

The stately specimen is still standing in the Wildenthal forest district and its exact age can only be determined from the annual rings after it has been felled. It will also only be known later how tall the tree on Chemnitz market square actually is. This is because around three metres of the remarkably large spruce will disappear into a sleeve in the market pavement to give it sufficient support.

The tree will arrive in Chemnitz city centre at around 5 pm on 9 November. At around 9 a.m., it will be felled in the Ore Mountains by employees of Techno-Farm und Service GmbH and made ready for transport on a low-loader for a journey lasting several hours.

The Christmas tree is accompanied by police officers on the journey to its destination. The transport route in Chemnitz leads from the Chemnitz/Mitte junction via the B 95/Leipziger Straße, Hartmannstraße, Theaterstraße to the market.

Anyone who wants to be there when the Christmas tree arrives will be able to shorten the waiting time at the market from 11 a.m. with barbecued sausages and mulled wine. A carousel awaits the youngest visitors.
