Christmas tree for the Chemnitz Christmas market is coming
Arrival of the tree at the market on 9 November, late afternoon
This year's Christmas tree for the Chemnitz Christmas market will arrive on the market square in the late afternoon of Saturday, 9 November.
The tree will be felled by employees of Techno-Farm und Service GmbH, transported on a low-loader during a journey lasting several hours via motorways and main roads and then erected on the market square.
The delivery traditionally marks the start of the preparations for the Christmas market. The waiting time until the tree arrives in Chemnitz can be shortened again this year with a barbecue and mulled wine at the market.
This year's Christmas tree was found in the forest district of the Sachsenforst state enterprise in Eibenstock, Wildenthal district*. The approx. 26 metre high spruce is estimated to be 50 to 60 years old. Its exact age can only be determined after felling based on the annual rings.
Around 23 metres of the spruce will then be visible on the Chemnitz market, as the tree will be firmly anchored in a three-metre-deep ground socket, as it is every year.
The search for a visually appealing, evenly grown tree with healthy needles, which is also stable enough to be decorated with fairy lights, was once again very difficult. Due to the effects of the weather in recent years and the economic utilisation of trees, such stately trees have become much rarer.
