Christmas parcels for children are packed

On Tuesday, 12 December at 2.45 pm, representatives of the media are invited to the children's and youth club "Zur Alten Wanne", Stöcklstraße 4. Members of the Board of the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation, including Chairwoman of the Board Cornelia Dietrich, will then join the young people there to put together around 50 Christmas parcels. Once again this year, these will bring Christmas joy to children living in various independent youth welfare centres in the city.
Children who are under the guardianship of the youth welfare office will also receive presents. The foundation is supported by Richter & Hess Verpackungs-Service GmbH and Selgros Chemnitz and works together with the children's and youth centre "Zur Alten Wanne", which is run by the Altchemnitz-Harthau Evangelical Lutheran parish.
In addition to this programme, the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation also supports other projects such as the Johanneum Academy, a project initiated by the foundation itself. It is held twice a year, one week in the Easter holidays and one week in the autumn holidays. The aim of this project is to introduce socially disadvantaged children to different educational programmes, to awaken their curiosity, to develop social skills and to increase their self-esteem. At the Johanneum Academy, the children receive constant pedagogical project support from staff at the Chemnitz children's youth and family centre. In addition to educational activities, the programme also includes sport and creativity. Stable partners for the foundation are various independent youth welfare organisations and project partners from the private sector.
In addition, a summer camp has been organised since 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic has led to an educational deficit, particularly among children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The foundation aims to counteract this deficit with this additional project week.
The history of the Johanneum Children's and Youth Foundation began in 1855, when Carl Christian Hübner from Chemnitz initiated the establishment of a foundation to give girls and boys from socially disadvantaged families equal opportunities in life. When it was re-established in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
The sponsored projects primarily help children and young people in Chemnitz, most of whom are on the dark side of life and whose life plans are sometimes characterised by a lack of courage and prospects.
The foundation can be supported with donations and endowments so that it can continue to provide effective help.
