From 27 August to 3 September, the University of Manchester Chamber Choir will be visiting Chemnitz at the invitation of the Kreuzkirche choir.

On Thursday 28 August at 6 pm, the choir from the British twin city will kick off its visit with a concert of works by Bach, Brahm, Briten, Byrd, Dulichius and Rasch at musical vespers in St. Jakobikirche Chemnitz, Innere Klosterstraße 2. The choir will be welcomed by Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky.

On Sunday, 31 August at 5 p.m., the University of Manchester Chamber Choir and the Kantorei der Kreuzkirche will give a joint concert in the Kreuzkirche Chemnitz, Henriettenstraße 36, performing the important oratorio "The Dream of Gerontius" by Edward Elgar in collaboration with the Mozart-Gesellschaft Chemnitz. Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will give a welcoming address.

Interested parties and representatives of the media are invited to both concerts.

During its stay, the British choir will also visit a Chemnitz secondary school and exhibitions in and around Chemnitz. The choir members will also be staying with their hosts in the parish.
The Kreuzkirche choir will make a return visit to Manchester at the end of November 2025. There, the singers will take part in another performance of Elgar's "Gerontius".

The exchange will deepen the city partnership between Chemnitz and Manchester through personal encounters in the field of music. The project is financially supported by a twinning programme of the City of Chemnitz. The hosts are the parish of St Jacobi's Cross and the Saxon Mozart Society.
