Chinese artists from the twin city of Taiyuan at the 20th Chemnitz City Festival
From 28 to 31 August 2014, 13 artists and craftspeople from Taiyuan, Chemnitz's Chinese twin city, will also be taking part in the programme of the Chemnitz Anniversary City Festival. The Chinese guests will present their demonstrations in four tents set up on the market square by the town hall. Visitors to the 20. Visitors to the 20th Chemnitz City Festival can look forward to a wide range of performances during their encounters with the artists from the Far East: Traditional arts such as shadow puppet performances are just as much a part of the programme as the presentation of famous Chinese lacquer work, the artistic creation of sculptures from salt dough and the presentation of examples of teapot making and painting as well as painting, cloth art, scissor work and calligraphy.
In Chemnitz, the Chinese guests will be welcomed and looked after by staff from the Town Twinning Department in the Mayor's Office of the City of Chemnitz. The delegation from the twin city, led by Mr Yuan Zhanjun from the Taiyuan Artists' Association, is expected to arrive in Chemnitz on Wednesday 27 August and return on 1 September.
During their stay in Chemnitz, the guests from Taiyuan will be accommodated in the Hotel Mercure Kongress.

About the town twinning: The town twinning between Taiyuan and Chemnitz has existed since 1999 and was initially characterised by economic contacts and visits by official delegations. Today, 15 years after the signing of the agreement, there is a lively exchange between the two cities at many different levels: For example, running athletes from the Chinese twin city took part in this year's 7th Chemnitz Marathon. In return, Chemnitz athletes will take part in the Taiyuan Marathon on 13 September 2014. Artists and craftspeople from Taiyuan have been enriching the Chemnitz City Festival for several years now. In 2012, the city of Chemnitz was honoured with the "Prize for Exchange and Cooperation with China" at the International Friendship Cities Conference held in Chengdu, China, in recognition of its long-standing cooperation with the twin city of Taiyuan.
