Children plan their playground

Ideas wanted for the playground on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz

Children and families in Chemnitz are invited to submit their ideas for new and suitable elements for the northern playground on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz by 30 June. The results will be used as the basis for a playground equipment competition.

The City of Chemnitz's Parks Department is planning to redesign the two play areas on Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz in the Kaßberg district. The square, formerly known as Kaiserplatz, was laid out in 1890 as an ornamental square and has been a listed building since 1991. The two play areas, which are located in the northern and southern parts of the square, are very popular and highly frequented due to their central location.

The "Hexenwald" play area in the northern section, which was built in 2009, and the "Drehscheibe" play equipment, which was installed in 2005, are worn and worn out. Both play areas are therefore to be renewed. The north play area will be redesigned for children aged 3 to 12 years, while the south play area will be redesigned for children aged 0 to 5 years (sand play area).

Due to the preservation order, the basic structure and design of the play areas will remain unchanged. The basic shape of the pathways will also remain the same. In the southern part, the asymmetrical shape of the play area, which is based on historical plans, will be restored.

How can children and families get involved?

Children can fill in a questionnaire themselves or with the help of their parents using the following link or QR code.

On the questionnaire, children can tick what they would like to do on the northern playground. They can draw their ideas on a colouring template. Anyone who wants to use pen and paper, Lego, modelling clay, cardboard or other materials to build models can take photos and upload them.

All ideas will be recorded. These form the basis for the planners' further work. Information on the further procedure will be provided on an ongoing basis.

Questions from participants will be answered by the coordinator for child and youth participation, Katrin Günther, on 0371 488-1518 or mitmachen(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
