Children from Chemnitz send messages of peace

Results of the painting competition to be shown in an open-air gallery

Children and Youth Representative Ute Spindler and the Local Alliance for Families in Chemnitz are calling on children and families as well as day-care centres and after-school care centres to take part in a children's drawing competition. The theme is peace and what everyone can do for it.

The painted messages of peace will initially be hung up in a city-wide open-air gallery at the respective facilities until the start of school. The pictures can then be returned to the children's and youth representative until 16 September. The pictures can then be submitted to the Children and Youth Commissioner (Bahnhofstraße 53), solaris Förderzentrum (Neefestraße 88), Stadtsportbund Chemnitz (Stadlerstraße 14a), AWO Chemnitz (Clara-Zetkin-Straße 1), IHK Chemnitz (Straße der Nationen 25) or TU Chemnitz (Straße der Nationen 62) by 16 September. The submissions will be shown on 25 September as part of the "Families on the Move" project in Küchwald. The artists will also receive a small prize on Family Day.

Children of all ages can take part. "Peace starts at home. Listening to each other in the family, respecting each other and resolving disputes without violence is a contribution to peace. This also applies to living together in your group, school class or with friends. Get creative and turn your ideas into pictures," says Ute Spindler, the children and youth representative.

This is in support of the painting competition organised by the international Mayors for Peace network, in which the city of Chemnitz is participating. This competition is aimed at children between the ages of 6 and 15. The artwork that wins the Mayors for Peace President's Prize will be printed on plastic folders, which Mayors for Peace will use on various occasions to raise awareness of the importance of peace education. The city of Chemnitz is also planning to exhibit the submitted artworks on Chemnitz Peace Day 2023.
