"Chess for Kids" initiative launched in local daycare centres

Under the title "Chess for Kids", an initiative is now being launched in the municipal daycare centres of the city of Chemnitz to raise awareness and familiarise daycare professionals with the game of chess, which will also be available to girls and boys in daycare centres in the future. The initiative is under the patronage of the Mayor of Chemnitz. The nationwide initiator of "Chess for Kids" is Ralf Schreiber, who is also in charge of training day-care centre staff.

To mark the launch of "Chess for Kids", representatives of the media have been invited to the Walther-Ranft-Straße 70/72 daycare centre on Friday 17 May at 12 noon for a discussion with Ralf Schreiber, who will report on his initiative and the content of the training course.

14 educational professionals from 13 municipal daycare centres have registered for the first training course. The participants will receive basic equipment to apply the teaching method in the day-care centre: Chess boards, chess pieces, exercise books, success stickers and certificates have been specially designed by the "Chess for Kids" initiative. According to the experts, the complex board game also acts as a tool to counteract any learning difficulties and concentration problems in younger children. With this in mind, the training course prepares daycare centre teachers to learn new approaches with "Chess for Kids".

Background: The effect of the "Chess for KIDS teaching method" on children from the age of three has been proven in practice as well as scientifically. Awarded the German Chess Prize at Didacta 2011 and praised as an excellent project at World Children's Day, the "Chess for Kids" initiative is now bringing a new movement to the "game of kings". Experience has shown that after a relatively short period of involvement with the game, a variety of positive effects can be recognised: concentration time, memory, self-confidence, a desire for new learning adventures, the prerequisite for basic communication skills and exposure to cultural techniques such as reading and arithmetic are strengthened or initiated. or initiated.
