Chemnitz Zoo: Offspring among the ibexes

Two young animals were born to the West Caucasian ibex at Chemnitz Zoo in May. The group has now grown to eight animals.
The ibex mating season falls in the winter months of November and December. After a gestation period of just under six months, a single cub is usually born in May and June. Twin births are rather rare here.
The Western Caucasian ibex has the smallest range of all ibex species. It covers an area of around 15,000 square kilometres in the western Caucasus, mainly in Georgia and Russia. With this small range in the Western Caucasus and a rapidly declining population of only around 5,000 individuals, the Western Caucasian ibex is considered a critically endangered species. Despite a conservation breeding programme, these impressive horned beasts are rarely exhibited in European zoos. In Germany, this species can only be found in four other zoological institutions. The zoo is therefore all the more pleased to be able to report another successful participation in a conservation breeding programme.
Registration possible via the zoo app
Like many other zoos, Chemnitz Zoo and the wildlife enclosure are now represented in an app called "Zoo2Go". Potential visitors can now make bookings for their visit to the zoo and/or wildlife park directly via the app. (However, this is still possible via the zoo's homepage).
But the app offers more than just a booking tool. It also provides interactive site maps, a list of the animal species kept and various information about the facilities at Chemnitz Zoo and Wildgatter - as well as 23 other zoos and wildlife parks.
Test opportunity at Whitsun
In order to offer all visitors the opportunity to visit the facilities at Whitsun, a test tent will be set up in front of the zoo entrance on Whit Sunday and Whit Monday, where visitors can undergo a rapid test from 9am. (Vaccinated and recovered people do not need a rapid test).
Please note that testing takes some time and there may be waiting times. This should also be taken into account when planning your entry window and journey.
