Chemnitz Women's Weeks: "The long road to freedom"

On Thursday, 2 March at 6 p.m., the Equal Opportunities Officer of the City of Chemnitz invites you to an author reading with Klaus-Dieter Kunick at the Stefan-Heym-Forum in the TIETZ.
This will mark the opening of the Chemnitz Women's Weeks 2023.
In the reading, the author will tell interesting stories about different women: Women's fates in the confusing but exciting times of social change in 1989. Women from Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have their say. How did they perceive their lives in "real existing socialism up to the peaceful revolution" and what happened afterwards?
Klaus-Dieter Kunick, born in 1951, began an apprenticeship as a skilled worker for electronic components after completing the 10th grade in 1966. He then completed his service with the NVA and reorientated himself professionally as a home educator in an apprentice hostel at Carl Zeiss Jena (four-year technical college course). Finally, in 1981, he entered the world of journalism, initially at GDR radio (Studio Gera). In 1983, he began a five-year correspondence course at the University of Leipzig to qualify as a journalist. From 1990, he worked for a daily newspaper in Saxony-Anhalt. He retired on 1 July 2017, but continues to work as a volunteer and is also active as a writer.

Author reading on the topic of women in the peaceful revolution of 1989. Women talk about their lives in the GDR, how they experienced the social change and how they think about this eventful time more than 30 years later. The reading will be given by retired journalist Klaus-Dieter Kunick.
Equal Pay Day

Action by Chemnitz trade union women on the town hall square
Under the motto "The art of equal pay", this year's Equal Pay Day will be celebrated with campaigns, information stands and actions throughout Germany. The aim is to find solutions for more equal pay that are groundbreaking for the entire world of work.

This year's Women's Day is being celebrated under the title "Solidarity with the women of the world". Women from Chemnitz's twin cities and from Iran are expected to attend the event. The situation of women in various countries will be highlighted in a panel discussion.

Literary salon - with Chemnitz's first literary scholarship holder Arna Aley.
Arna Aley is in Chemnitz for six months to track down stories, meet people and enter into dialogue with them. She presents current texts that come from the centre of city life and yet also carry the outside perspective of their author.

Event organised by the ASF-Chemnitz (Working Group of Social Democratic Women).
Women who retire today are barely able to cover their living expenses with the average pension without additional security. Although the pension gap has narrowed, in Germany it is still one of the highest in the European Union.
Kristin Kubanek is a financial mentor and founder of MoneyFacture. The Chemnitz native will provide a basic insight into financial planning for women. Of course, questions from the participants about financial security for women in old age will also take centre stage.
Being a woman in Estonia

Astrid Porila talks about her Estonian homeland and in particular the life of women there - in words, pictures and with a culinary tasting typical of the country.
Estonia is considered a model of digitalisation, dynamic and cosmopolitan. What does everyday life look like for women in Estonia, what does reconciling family and career mean and how do Estonian women view their lives?
Astrid Porila is a lecturer at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre for German as a Foreign Language and a freelance trainer for intercultural communication and simple language. She has lived in Chemnitz since 2001.
