Chemnitz Women's Aid Association receives human rights plaque

On Sunday, 10 December at 11 a.m., the Frauenhilfe Chemnitz association, Hainstraße 125, will receive a human rights plaque. This will be presented to the organisation on International Human Rights Day by the Soroptimist International Club Chemnitz, which is currently being founded. Pia Hamann, Equal Opportunities Officer for the City of Chemnitz, points this out.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
The human rights plaque refers to the first three articles of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany. Article 1 states: "Human dignity is inviolable". Article 2 guarantees, among other things, the free personal development and physical integrity of every human being by the state. In Article 3, the Federal Republic of Germany guarantees equal rights for men and women.
These are central concerns of Soroptimist International. As part of a worldwide network, the club campaigns for the self-determination of women and girls, for equal rights, for access to education and against violence against women. The human rights plaque has been awarded by Soroptimist clubs for around ten years. Recipients are schools, institutions and associations. This is the first such award in Chemnitz.
The association Frauenhilfe Chemnitz e.V. has existed since 1990 and supports two projects: the Chemnitz Women's Refuge and the Intervention and Coordination Centre for Combating Domestic Violence and Stalking (IKOS). Its task and aim is to help people from Chemnitz and the surrounding area who are affected by domestic violence and/or stalking to lead a free life without violence again.
