Chemnitz wins the 2016 Training Cup

Chemnitz City Council, Training Department (now Projects, Training and Further Education), together with the Youth Employee Representation (JAV) of the Staff Council, has won the 2016 Training Cup organised by the trade union Ver.di. This trophy honours the best training company in the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge and Zwickau-Vogtland region.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig will receive the trophy on 14 November 2016 at 10 a.m. in the city council chamber from union secretary Paul Schmidt in the presence of Mayor Sven Schulze, representatives of the training department, the chairman of the staff representatives, Hubert Fröhlich, the chairman of the youth employee representatives, Sebastian Gebhard, members of the JAV and GJAV as well as trainees.
Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
Various factors were included in the assessment, such as the number of trainees and the number of hires after training (in Chemnitz almost 100% and above the pay scale), the quality and organisation of training as well as additional offers for trainees (such as application training, media day, training day, trainer awards, etc.) and collective bargaining coverage.
In summer 2016, the city administration, SG Training, and the youth employee representatives applied for the 2016 Training Cup organised by the trade union Ver.di. Chemnitz was able to prevail against nine competitors this year.
In previous participations, Chemnitz had already achieved 3rd place in 2011 and 2nd place in 2015.
Currently, 141 young people are learning an apprenticeship at Chemnitz City Council. Specifically, these include 58 administrative assistants, 21 office management assistants, 35 Bachelor of Laws students, 8 Bachelor of Arts students (social pedagogues), 4 media and information services specialists, 4 swimming pool specialists, 4 animal keepers, 4 road builders and 3 gardeners.
There are also 2 trainee fire inspectors and 20 trainee fire officers, who are not included in the total number of trainees.
This year, 24 trainees completed their training, including 13 administrative assistants, 7 Bachelor of Laws students, 2 Bachelor of Arts (social pedagogues), one specialist for media and information services and one animal keeper. All trainees were taken on after completing their training.
The number of trainees is gradually increasing. In 2018, a total of 258 trainees/students will be employed by the municipal administration.
