Chemnitz voted Germany's most beautiful Christmas city
Chemnitz has taken first place in the public vote for "Germany's most beautiful Christmas city".
"It's great that we are at the top of the visitors' favourites," says Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig. "Our mixture of folk art from the Ore Mountains, regional and national specialities and great gift ideas was honoured with the vote for the most beautiful Christmas town in Germany. Our medieval market was also very well received by visitors. Many thanks to everyone who voted."
The competition, initiated by Messe Frankfurt, was open until yesterday. 41 cities from all over Germany presented themselves on the internet platform www.bestchristmascity.de. With a total of 9215 votes, Chemnitz beat Braunschweig with 8888 votes and Dresden with 4059 votes into second and third place.
