Chemnitz town twinning project receives award from the Federal Foreign Office
Mayor Barbara Ludwig receives pupils from the 93rd Volgograd School and the Annen School on 19 September, 2.30 pm, in the town hall
On Friday, 14 September, the town twinning work between Chemnitz and Volgograd will be honoured at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. As part of the German-Russian Year of Municipal and Regional Partnerships 2017/2018, the student exchange initiative between the Annenschule in Chemnitz and the school in Volgograd will be honoured. The project is one of 30 award winners selected from 250 applications. Jury Starowatikh, former mayor of the city of Volgograd, and Jirzka Meyer, head of the Chemnitz education authority, will receive the certificate in the capital.
The closing ceremony will take place all day at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. The German-Russian Year is being organised under the patronage of the Foreign Ministers of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heiko Maas, and the Russian Federation, Sergey V. Lavrov.
Due to the current student exchange between the 93rd Volgograd School and the Annenschule-Oberschule in Chemnitz, representatives from both cities and schools will be attending the award ceremony in Berlin. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will welcome the students and teachers of the exchange next Wednesday, 19 September, 2.30 pm, in the City Council Chamber of Chemnitz City Hall.

The student exchange between Annenschule-Oberschule and its partner school in Volgograd has been organised for many years and has thus already become a tradition. Pupils from different classes visit each other on an annual basis and stay overnight with host families. 2019 marks the start of the 6th year of the exchange.
The Russian students leave again on Friday, 21 September.
