After three years, the appointment period of the Urban Design Board of Trustees expired at the end of 2012. The committee will conclude its work on 22 February with a symposium in which the perspectives of Chemnitz's urban design will be debated together with specialists and experts as well as interested citizens. In addition to the curators, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Mayor of Construction Petra Wesseler will also take part in the event.

The Board of Trustees for Urban Design was tasked with advising the administration and politicians on projects of particular importance to urban development. The Board of Trustees was primarily concerned with changes to historically significant city districts and ensembles, listed buildings or buildings that characterise the cityscape. In addition to a core of eight voting experts, four representatives from the city council and five knowledgeable residents, other experts were also involved in the Board of Trustees' deliberations on specific topics.
