Chemnitz Theatre: Search committee proposes Dr Christoph Dittrich as artistic director
Dr Christoph Dittrich is to become the new artistic director of Theater Chemnitz from the 2013/14 season. This proposal was unanimously agreed on Friday evening by the search committee under the leadership of Cultural Mayor Philipp Rochold. He has been Managing Director of the Neue Elblandphilharmonie in Riesa since 2002. The recommendation will be presented to the city council for a decision at its meeting on 19 September.
Cultural Mayor Philipp Rochold: "In Dr Dittrich, the search committee has chosen a proven expert on the theatre business and the Saxon theatre landscape. I am firmly convinced that he will do justice to the importance of Chemnitz theatre for the city's cultural landscape, the local cultural scene, the management of the theatre and its artistic development. I look forward to an intensive collaboration for the benefit of our city."

Dittrich succeeds Dr Bernhard Helmich, who intends to leave Chemnitz Theatre prematurely at his own request at the end of the 2013/14 season.
Dr Christoph Dittrich was born in Dresden in 1966. He was trained as an instrumentalist, singer and choirmaster while still at school. During his studies (tuba, singing, music education) at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden (1986 - 1991), he took chamber music lessons in the masterclass of Professor Ludwig Güttler.
Dr Christoph Dittrich founded the brass ensemble "Dresden Brass Quintet" in 1987, with which he can look back on numerous concerts, festival appearances and CD recordings. He has been managing director of the Neue Elbland Philharmonie since 2002. He works intensively in the field of music education and youth music, initiating the development of new concert forms such as "visualised concerts" or school concerts with music from computers and video games.
He is a member of several committees of the "German Theatre Association" and was appointed chairman of the Saxony regional association in 2009. Dr Christoph Dittrich has given guest lectures at the TU Dresden and the DIU (Dresden International University) and completed his doctorate in musicology in 2008.
