Catalogue of measures presented - Mayor Ludwig: Want more quality of life and a better sense of security
The city will be taking a number of measures to improve the feeling of safety in the city centre as well as the quality of life and order. The catalogue of planned measures was presented today by Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig and Public Order Mayor Miko Runkel.
No glass bottles and no alcohol in city centre green spaces
In future, dangerous objects such as glass bottles will be prohibited in the city centre green spaces in Stadthallenpark and at Roter Turm, Am Wall and Johannisplatz. In addition, no alcohol may be consumed in these areas. Obviously intoxicated persons are also not allowed to stay there. All waste must be disposed of in the appropriate bins. These regulations apply from Monday to Saturday between 9 am and 10 pm.
This is regulated in a general decree, which comes into force on 22 May 2014 after publication in the municipal gazette and is valid until the end of October 2014. The test will then be evaluated.

Outdoor catering in the city centre is of course expressly excluded from the regulation. "The controls are also carried out with a sense of proportion. The aim is to prevent harassment or similar behaviour that some people associate with alcohol consumption," says Mayor Barbara Ludwig. "We want people to enjoy spending time in the city centre."
Regular checks
The city's public order service will regularly monitor compliance. This applies to the city centre as well as to other parts of the city if there is evidence of this or if a particular situation requires it.
Personnel development in the city order service
The City Police Service currently has twelve posts, nine of which are currently filled. The remaining three positions are currently being advertised or reorganised and should be available by mid-June. A further increase of ten employees is planned for the municipal police service. Where possible, suitable employees are to be found and trained within the administration.
Security partnership
Following the example of other cities, various stakeholders such as property owners, regulatory authorities, police, IG Innenstadt, institutions, citizens and security companies already active in the centre are to cooperate. The aim is to conclude a security partnership. In preparation for such a partnership, there will be a meeting with Mayor Barbara Ludwig to get the project off the ground.
