Chemnitz sports clubs and major sporting events are supported by the city with around 806,000 euros
Culture and Sports Committee confirms the administration's proposals
The committee approved the draft resolution B-123/2013 and thus the grants proposed by the administration as part of the 2013 sports funding programme for the Chemnitz City Sports Association, the Chemnitz Police Sports Association (CPSV) and the Chemnitz Gymnastics and Ball Sports Association (VTB Chemnitz):
The city is thus granting the city sports association 168,300 euros to support the employment of groundsmen (previously ten, since January eleven), thus helping to secure the operation of club sports facilities. 307,560 euros can now be made available by the City of Chemnitz to the Stadtsportbund to support the financing of coaching positions for basic and advanced training in Olympic sports. The city sports association will receive 121,000 euros from the "city purse" to finance the sports youth work of the Sportjugend Chemnitz (SJC) in the SSBC, which has been anchored in direct sports funding since 2004. Five employees work for this project at the city sports association. In addition, the ongoing operating and material costs for the Fürstenstrasse and Helbersdorfer Strasse centres must be financed.
The CPSV is being supported by the city with 95,000 euros for the completion of the renovation of the Ernst-Wabra-Straße sports hall: the club has been operating this sports hall since 2009. To date, the roof and heating system have already been renovated at a cost of 187,000 euros, with the city providing over 100,000 euros in funding. The refurbishment of the sports hall is due to be completed in 2013. With this decision, VTB Chemnitz will receive 90,000 euros for the extension of the sanitary/changing room area in the Guerickestraße sports hall, which the club has been using and operating since 1996. As part of the special funding programme, VTB has carried out extensive renovation work on the then dilapidated sports hall since 2007. The work to maintain the value of the building will be completed with the finalisation of the extension to the sanitary and changing area, which will include a changing room, guest toilets (ladies and gents), a disabled WC and an equipment room.
Both construction projects are also being financed with funding from the Sächsische Aufbaubank.
Yesterday, the committee also approved the draft resolution B-125/2013 and thus the proposed grants as part of the 2013 sports funding programme for major sporting events. In 2013, the City of Chemnitz will provide grants to the respective leading sports clubs for the organisation of the following major sporting events:
USA-ESP-ROUGER national gymnastics competition - Organiser: TuS 1861 Altendorf e. V.

Grant: 610 euros.
22nd International Boxing Tournament - Organiser: Box-Verband Sachsen e. V.
Grant: 4,300 euros.
International matches U 16 - Organiser: Chemcats e. V.
Grant: 550 euros.
Chemnitz Cup - Organiser: Chemnitzer Sport-Community 2010 e. V.
Grant: 370 euros.
Handball Masters 2013 - Organiser: Chemnitzer Handballclub e. V.
Grant: 4,200 euros.
