Pd0587 Feuerwehrwettkampf

The members of the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade successfully took part in a nationwide fire brigade competition in Stadthagen, Lower Saxony: Young firefighters from all parts of Germany met here from 5 to 8 September for the 2013 German Youth Fire Brigade Day and to take part in the German Championships of the German Youth Fire Brigades in the national competition. Saxony was represented in competitions and activities in Stadthagen by the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade under the leadership of youth warden Andreas Richter and by the Mühlbach youth fire brigade.

A total of 32 youth fire brigade teams took part in the national competition in Stadthagen. Children and young people completed a programme that was both technically and athletically challenging, including a fire-fighting attack with an obstacle course, knot-tying for time, a 400-metre relay race and various fire-fighting tasks for time, such as rolling hoses and putting on equipment. The young firefighters from Chemnitz came 19th, while the Mühlbach team came 17th.

The young Chemnitz team had already qualified for their participation in the German championships at the end of June at the state competition in Mühlbach in eastern Saxony, where they won first place and thus the title of state champion in Saxony, while the Mühlbach team came second.
