Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade takes part in national competition
The members of the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade successfully took part in a nationwide fire brigade competition in Montabaur in the Westerwald.
Young firefighters from all parts of Germany met from 4 to 6 September to take part in the German Youth Fire Brigade Championships in the national competition. Saxony was represented at the competitions in Montabaur by two youth fire brigades, including the Saxon state champions: the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade led by youth warden Andreas Richter.
A total of 30 youth fire brigade teams took part in the national competition in Montabaur. Children and young people completed a programme that was both technically and athletically challenging, including a fire-fighting attack with an obstacle course, knot-tying for time,
400 metre relay race as well as various technical firefighting tasks against the clock, such as rolling hoses and putting on equipment. The young firefighters from Chemnitz achieved a very good 11th place.
The young Chemnitz firefighters had already qualified for their participation in the German championships at the end of June at the state competition in Mittweida, where they took first place and thus the title of state champion in Saxony.
The national competition also includes a creative part, in which the young people present their work in the youth fire brigade with singing and performing arts and thus also design their own evening programme during the competition. Here, the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade took 2nd place.
