The members of the Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade, led by youth warden Andreas Richter, took first place at the state championships in Mittweida in central Saxony. Young firefighters from all parts of Saxony and a guest team from the Czech Republic met here from 26 to 28 June to take part in the Saxon Youth Fire Brigade Championships.

A total of 15 youth fire brigade teams took part in the national competition in Mittweida. Children and young people completed a programme that was both technically and athletically challenging, including a fire-fighting attack with an obstacle course, knot-tying for time, a 400-metre relay race and various fire-fighting tasks for time, such as rolling hoses and putting on equipment. The young firefighters from Chemnitz defended their title as state champions.

This qualified them to take part in the German Youth Fire Brigade Championships from 4 to 6 September in Montabaur, Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Chemnitz-Siegmar youth fire brigade team includes eight boys and two girls aged between 14 and 18.
