Chemnitz sets an example for humanity

Start is in front of the Red Tower. Please bring your own lanterns or lanterns. Lanterns and candles are also available on site. Afterwards, you can take part in various events on the topic of asylum.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited to attend.
For Katrin Siegel, coordinator of the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz (LAP), it is important to emphasise that asylum is a human right: "Every person fleeing war, suffering and destruction is entitled to an orderly asylum procedure and humane accommodation. Decency alone demands that we treat people who come to us seeking support in times of need with courtesy and respect. Generalised prejudice, hatred and violence against refugees and the people who support them must be rejected, as they have no place in a democracy and are intolerable. The network is therefore calling on everyone to show that inhuman voices against refugees and all committed professional and volunteer helpers must be rejected. The aim is to show that respecting human rights is a matter close to the hearts of the people of Chemnitz."
Afterwards, everyone is invited to an event at St Jakobi's Church.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the federal "Live Democracy" programme and the "Local Action Plan" of the city of Chemnitz.
