Chemnitz School Theatre Day 2021
Press event: 13 July, 12.45 pm, Opera House
Please note: Due to the bad weather forecast, the school theatre day has been moved to the Chemnitz Opera House. (changed on 12 July)
The Chemnitz School Theatre Day will take place on Tuesday, 13 July. As a kind of compact school theatre week, it provides a starting signal for a return to theatre work and offers a stage to theatre groups that have been able to rehearse digitally and analogue.
Seven school theatre groups - three from Chemnitz, three from the region and one from the twin city of Düsseldorf - will meet at the Chemnitz Opera House from 9.15 a.m. on this day to attend workshops in various areas and try out their creativity together.
Representatives of the media will have the opportunity to conduct an interview with the organiser Heike Vieth from Chemnitz Theatre at 12.45 pm . (Contact: 0371 6969 817)
In the early afternoon, at 1.15 pm, the theatre groups from the Annenschule Chemnitz, the Grundschule Lippersdorf and the Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Oberschule Zschopau will present excerpts from their current work, and the workshop results from the morning will also be presented (for invited guests only).
In the evening, from 6 to 8.30 pm, there will be a digital exchange and the online premiere of the production "Gegen den Hass" by the "Gruppe aus 6" from the Görres-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf.
The collaboration with the Görres-Gymnasium has existed for several years. There have been successful performances by Düsseldorf pupils in Chemnitz and also by Chemnitz pupils during the "Maskerade" school theatre festival in Düsseldorf.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were only very few rehearsals this school year, some theatre groups tried their hand at digital formats, others had to take a complete break and struggled with a loss of members and declining motivation. This is where the Chemnitz School Theatre Day wants to set an example, support the groups, activate contacts and call for an exchange of experiences.
A total of 62 pupils and eight supervisors are taking part in the School Theatre Day in Chemnitz.
The participating school theatre groups are:
- Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe-Gymnasium Chemnitz with seven pupils and one theatre teacher
- Annenschule - Oberschule Chemnitz with eight pupils and two theatre teachers
- Evangelisches Schulzentrum Chemnitz with 17 pupils and one theatre director
- Stollberg grammar school with eight pupils
- Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Oberschule, Zschopau with ten pupils and two theatre directors
- Lippersdorf primary school with nine pupils and one theatre director
- Görres-Gymnasium, Düsseldorf with three pupils and one theatre director
The hope is to be able to organise a complete school theatre week again in 2022. The School Theatre Day is already intended to motivate all groups to try out new projects to express their experiences and feelings of the past year in theatre.
