Chemnitz residents' commitment to the city's Local Action Plan has increased

Monitoring committee of the Local Action Plan for the Promotion of Democracy selects projects for funding

This year, the city received 61 applications totalling 750,000 euros for the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz. This has exceeded expectations. A total of 380,000 euros in funding is available. The funding is made up of 80,000 euros in municipal funds and 300,000 euros in federal funds from the federal programme "Demokratie Leben" (Living Democracy). On 16 April 2019, the monitoring committee of the local action plan will be tasked with selecting the 61 projects that will receive a funding recommendation. The monitoring committee consists of 17 members from the administration and civil society.

This year's applications focus on ideas for peaceful dialogue with people who hold different opinions, measures for political and cultural education as well as confronting racism and inhumane attitudes.

Civil society in Chemnitz is committed and active in many different ways. Every year since 2009, the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz has received more applications than funds were available. This shows that Chemnitz's civil society is committed to a cosmopolitan city and democratic values.
