Chemnitz receives more money from the Free State
Higher key allocations make it possible to offset additional costs
The city of Chemnitz will receive additional funds from the Free State of Saxony this year. Instead of the previously planned general key allocations of around 217 million euros, the city will receive around 230 million euros. The higher sum is the result of a more positive tax trend in the Free State on the one hand and a lower tax capacity of the city of Chemnitz compared to the independent cities of Dresden and Leipzig on the other.
The City of Chemnitz intends to use these additional funds to offset the additional costs incurred in the budget due to the coronavirus pandemic or general cost increases in various areas. Corresponding proposals from the city administration have now been submitted to the city councillors for discussion at the May meeting.
Treasurer Ralph Burghart: "The proposals for the use of these additional funds will help in many areas of the city and relieve the budget. Thanks to these funds, we as a city can slightly mitigate the financial gaps caused by the coronavirus pandemic and other cost increases."
Among other things, the city of Chemnitz would like to use the funds to cover higher social levy costs and additional requirements in the area of expenses related to the accommodation and care of Ukrainian refugees. Grants are also to be provided for independent child daycare centres, and the funds for the youth welfare budget and the management costs of schools and daycare centres are also to be increased. Funds are also earmarked for the refurbishment of the martial arts hall in the sports forum.
The C3 and EFC GmbH are to receive grants due to the loss of revenue caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Due to general cost increases, the City of Chemnitz would also like to keep a reserve for the construction of the swimming pool complex in Bernsdorf and provide the Civil Engineering and Parks Department with funds to repair damage to roads and forests. There will also be additional funds for the zoo and disaster control.
