Chemnitz is the public's favourite in the "Best Christmas City" competition. Last Thursday, representatives of the city and the CWE accepted the award at the New Year's reception of the Federal Association of City and Town Marketing Germany. After an exciting neck-and-neck race, Chemnitz came top of the public vote with 9215 votes, followed by Braunschweig (8888), Dresden (4059), Bocholt (3659) and Bochum (3125). The winners of the expert jury are Abensberg, Bocholt and Dresden.

From the beginning of November 2014 to the beginning of January 2015, a total of 41 cities presented their Christmas markets and Christmas attractions on www.BestChristmasCity.de. The three winners of the expert jury each won a high-quality decoration worth around 6,500 euros for the next Christmas season. The competition was initiated by Christmasworld, the international trade fair for decorations and festive decorations from 30 January to 3 February 2015 in Frankfurt am Main.
