Chemnitz receives a solar cadastre
City Council adopts a solar cadastre statute as a legal basis
As part of its climate protection efforts, the city of Chemnitz is endeavouring to significantly increase electricity generation from renewable energy sources. In addition to the use of wind and biomass, photovoltaics and solar thermal energy are suitable for the production of renewable energies. A solar cadastre shows the suitability of roof areas in the city of Chemnitz for solar energy generation and is also an aid for homeowners who would like to install a solar system on their roof. The statute adopted today by the City Council creates a legal basis, which is necessary for data protection reasons, in order to be able to digitally process an assessment of already recorded roofs and publish it on the Internet.
This publication of a solar cadastre on the city's website is a measure of the Energy Policy Work Programme (EAP) 2014 to 2017, which serves to implement the integrated climate protection concept for the city of Chemnitz adopted on 12 December 2012. The target group of the register are the owners of existing buildings that do not yet use renewable energy.
The solar roof register will go live on 13 May and can be accessed via www.chemnitz.de. If homeowners have concerns about the publication of information on the solar potential of their building, they can object to the publication. Requests for cancellation should be sent informally to:
