Chemnitz projects win "So geht sächsisch." award #JetztLokalHandeln
The city of Chemnitz, Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH (CWE), exclusiv events and the retailer initiative "Chemnitz City" will each receive 5,000 euros from the Free State of Saxony for three joint project ideas.
The events are intended to strengthen and revitalise Chemnitz city centre and enable local retailers and restaurateurs to make a fresh start after coronavirus. This will create event-related occasions to attract visitors to the city centre and support Chemnitz's art and culture scene.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "We will use the prize money raised to resume various event formats after the coronavirus pandemic and implement them with a high-quality approach. There will also be other additional activities that visitors to the events can look forward to and be equally surprised by."
The following three projects will be supported by "So geht sächsisch."
City Jazz & Friends
Under the motto "City Jazz & Friends", street artists will play in the outdoor catering areas of Chemnitz city centre on various Saturdays.
Fashion Day
The "Fashion Day" is organised in Chemnitz in July and December. The event is a combination of fashion, art and enjoyment and is intended to strengthen retailers and restaurateurs on the one hand and present visitors with a colourful and lively city centre on the other.
Festival of Sounds
The "Festival of Sounds" will take place again in November 2021. Bands, individual artists and DJs will perform in the restaurants and bars of Chemnitz city centre. In order to support the character of the respective location, the artists will be adapted to the respective catering concept.
In addition to the projects of the City of Chemnitz, CWE, Exclusiv Events and Chemnitz City, three other projects from Chemnitz have won:
- Brühl Community "A break after the break"
- Metropol cinema, "Tuffner Hof open-air cinema"
- The Ginger Club, "Fashion meets music (FaMu)
Background:
The "So geht sächsisch." award #JetztLokalHandeln is part of the cross-media campaign #JetztLokalHandeln, which was launched in March 2021. It began with a broad-based digital campaign via the online presences of all Saxon daily newspapers, flanked by adverts in Saxon weekly newspapers. In addition, "So geht sächsisch." and #JetztLokalHandeln are currently promoting local retail across Saxony on large billboards and in citylight formats. In summer, trams and a bus in Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz and Zwickau will also advertise shopping in local retail stores for two months.
