Chemnitz presents itself at the summer festival of the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in Prague
Traditionally, the Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony in Prague organises a summer festival at the beginning of September. This is an opportunity for Saxon districts and cities to present themselves to their Czech neighbours and, of course, to the many tourists. The premises near the Charles Bridge provide the best conditions for this.
From 8 to 9 September 2017, the city of Chemnitz will be presenting itself to visitors in Prague. To this end, Chemnitz Economic Development Corporation (CWE) is organising an extraordinary programme this year in collaboration with the City of Chemnitz's cultural department and the Free State of Saxony. It showcases the entire spectrum of the Saxon city, which is on its way to becoming the European Capital of Culture 2025.
The Saxon Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and Head of the State Chancellery, Dr Fritz Jaeckel, the Czech Minister of Culture, Daniel Hermann, and the Mayor of the City of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, will jointly open the non-European Capital of Culture programme on Friday,
8 September at 4 p.m. the non-public part of the summer festival for invited guests from politics, business and culture from both countries.
From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Saturday, 9 September, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., the public will also have access to the premises to get an idea of Chemnitz and what it has to offer.
The outdoor area will be completely redesigned to provide a suitable setting for the colourful cultural programme. On both days, Raster/Noton will present an audio/video performance with the artist Frank Brettschneider, originally from Chemnitz, live performances by George Crump and Ensemble 01 from the municipal theatre. Musical entertainment will also be provided by the Mozart Society with a programme by the Mozart Children and the Strike Trio from the municipal music school with Jakob Kuhn on drums with a live concert. There will also be music by DJ Monkeyman from Spinnerei e.V. and a visual presentation of the Morgenstadt project by VJ Aero (atomino). Visitors will be catered for by the "SH Fleischladen", among others.
The TU Chemnitz with the world's first printed electric motor can also be found inside. Chemnitz itself will be presenting future projects such as its bid to become European Capital of Culture 2025, the KRACH funding programme and projects to mark the city's 875th anniversary with a virtual swing.
The smac provides an initial insight into the exhibition planned for 2018 on the topic of "The History of Relations between Saxony and Bohemia" together with the National Gallery in Prague.
In the Maker Space, the open hands-on workshop Fablab, the Chaostreff and the Teilwerk will be presenting themselves.
There will also be an exhibition of sculptures by the artist Michael Morgner in the inner courtyard and banners from the art project "For Peace and Tolerance" by Aktion C.
With this presentation, the city of Chemnitz is demonstrating its entire urban attitude and cultural diversity as well as its self-image as an economically strong location, thus recommending itself as an important and reliable partner for the Czech Republic and for Europe as Capital of Culture 2025.
