From 15 to 17 August, the city of Chemnitz will be represented with a promotional stand at the Highfield Festival - one of the largest indie rock festivals in Germany. The aim is to get young people excited about Chemnitz as a city worth living, studying, working and living in.
Together with Chemnitz University of Technology, the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH and the Chemnitz Zwickau Region tourism destination, the city will provide information about its qualities as a place of the future in an open, creative environment.
A garage full of possibilities
The central element of the presentation is a garage, a direct reference to the Capital of Culture project #3000Garages, which focuses on creative open spaces. Around the garage, there will be a 50 square metre chill area with seating, interactive activities such as a wheel of fortune, glitter station, craft activities and tape art, as well as a large screen showing films and content about living and studying in Chemnitz. The area will also be integrated into the official festival app.
"The Highfield Festival offers us an unusual but very suitable environment: an open, good-humoured, young audience in a relaxed atmosphere - right on our doorstep," says Silvana Bergk, Head of the City of Chemnitz's Department of Economic Affairs. "We want to arouse curiosity, surprise and show that Chemnitz is more than many people expect: a city with potential, prospects and room for ideas."
"Chemnitz University of Technology in particular, with its diverse range of courses on highly topical subjects and excellent conditions for successful studies, is the ideal place for young people to realise their potential," adds Prof. Dr Anja Strobel, Vice-Rector for Research and University Development at Chemnitz University of Technology.
Marika Fischer, Managing Director of Tourismusverband Chemnitz Zwickau Region e. V.: "As an up-and-coming tourist destination, it is important for us to show young guests that we are an attractive destination and an underrated holiday region with many festivals, concerts and a special cultural scene."
Chemnitz: C The Unseen
In the Capital of Culture year 2025, Chemnitz is specifically using new ways to appeal to young people and get them excited about the city, not only in traditional media, but also where they spend their free time. The festival appearance is another part of the close cooperation between the City of Chemnitz's Economic Affairs Department, Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chemnitz Zwickau Region Tourism Association, which is largely responsible for the city's supra-regional tourism marketing.
