Chemnitz Orchard Days
Lecture on fruit tree pruning on 28 March, joint maintenance work on 1 April - Attention cancelled!
On Tuesday, 28 March at 5 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture on "Pruning orchard trees" at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station (Adelsbergstraße 192).
On Saturday, 1 April, there will then be a joint outreach on the meadow orchard near Draisdorf. The occasion is the Chemnitz Orchard Meadow Days.
Please note: The event on 1 April has been cancelled due to weather conditions.
Lutz Röder from NABU Regionalverband Erzgebirge e. V. will provide information on the ecological importance of orchard meadows and why it is necessary to prune fruit trees (standard and semi-standard trees). Pruning and growth laws as well as the different types of pruning, e.g. training and rejuvenation pruning, are explained. There are also tips on when to prune and suitable tools.
The knowledge acquired during the lecture can then be deepened and practically applied during the joint maintenance work on the orchard meadow in Draisdorf.

Participants will receive a map of how to get there and more detailed information about the care programme with their registration confirmation.
The nature conservation centre and the lower nature conservation authority look after around ten hectares of orchard meadows in the city. Orchard meadows are species-rich biotopes that are home to a variety of animal and plant species. At the same time, they characterise cultural landscapes. To preserve them, action days were organised last year. Now the focus is on caring for the trees.
