Chemnitz Orchard Day

Information event on 13 September, 3 to 6 pm, Draisdorf orchard meadow

On Tuesday, 13 September, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., fruit lovers and interested parties are invited to the orchard meadow day at the Draisdorf orchard. This is located on the B107 between the districts of Draisdorf and Wittgensdorf, on the landward side on the right (coordinates: 50.88770204705451, 12.898745710803478). There are no parking facilities directly on site. We recommend travelling by bike or carpooling.

The public orchard meadow day in Draisdorf will focus on the biodiversity of orchard meadows, healthy and regional production and use in harmony with nature conservation-friendly management of the meadows. There will be a guided tour and explanations on how to prune fruit trees correctly, as well as all kinds of information on the subject of orchards and their management.

Back in 1998, a joint project was launched between the Environment Agency and nature conservationists from the Chemnitz orchards in protected areas and compensation areas. Since then, a pure, locally produced and very tasty apple juice has been produced from the apples.

In recent years, it has unfortunately not been possible to utilise the apples from many areas. The Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station (City of Chemnitz, Environmental Agency) therefore intends to reorganise the care, use and processing of the fruit in collaboration with various cooperation partners from September 2022. The orchard meadow day is the kick-off event.
