Chemnitz music students make music in favour of promoting young talent
4th Chemnitz New Year's Concert on 6 January 2017, tickets available now
On 6 January 2017 at 6 p.m., students from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Music School at Thomas-Mann-Platz will perform together with the Kreuz-Kirche-Musik e.V. association for the
4th Chemnitz New Year's Concert in the Ev.-Luth. St. Pauli-Kreuz Church on Chemnitz's Kaßberg. The proceeds from the charity concert will be donated to support young musicians. The programme includes classical works, organ compositions and modern vocal and instrumental pieces. Concert tickets are available now and cost between 10 and 15 euros, depending on the category.
The patron of the charity concert is Dr Christoph Dittrich, General Director of Chemnitz Municipal Theatre. Together with the initiators of the concert, he is particularly keen to promote young musical talent in Chemnitz in order to prepare them for a later career as professional musicians or to provide them with an important early cultural education, the quality of which is always a sign of social responsibility.
The pupils of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the music school at Thomas-Mann-Platz have been preparing for this big performance for weeks. Nancy Gibson, Head of the Municipal Music School, is delighted with so much commitment: "We have maintained very good contact with the Kreuzkirche and the local music society for years. It was therefore a matter of course for us to take part in this New Year's concert. This is one of the most important performances of the year for our pupils. And while other children are still unwrapping Christmas presents, our music students will already be practising again, because they naturally want to show their best side."
Like Nancy Gibson, Patrick Schulze, Head of the music school at Thomas-Mann-Platz, is also looking forward to 6 January 2017: "In recent years, we have already been able to raise tens of thousands of euros for children in need with charity events organised by our children's musicals. The New Year's concert in the Kreuzkirche is now a great opportunity to continue the idea of 'children singing and playing for children' on a different level. It is also a great opportunity for us to work together with the municipal music school on this concert."
Supported by the Kreuz-Kirche-Musik e.V. association, the New Year's concert is taking place for the 4th time in St Pauli's Kreuz Church. In recent years, the charity event has always been sold out. The organisers are expecting around 900 guests for the 4th edition.
The proceeds from the New Year's concerts are used to support young talents in Chemnitz who show talent and commitment to music by providing them with the ideal conditions for their musical development in the form of lessons or instruments. For some time now, there has been a trend towards learning and playing an instrument or a musical education in general becoming a matter of course again in many families. The piano and guitar are still the most popular instruments, but there is currently also a trend towards drums and learning to play the electric guitar.
